Regional Clubs and Classes
DUNEDIN
Dunedin Fire and Juggling Club
At the bottom of the world near the most southern point in the South
Island meets a group of performers who practice fire, juggling and circus
skills weekly. This tradition has been running most years since
1989. People of all skill levels participate, with an average
of 20-50 people weekly. Practice takes place inside a large hall
so there is plenty of room to juggle and practice your throws no matter
what the weather. If it's a nice evening we then shift to the
outdoors and jam with fire. These activities take place 6-8pm
every Wednesday at the Clubs and Societies Centre, 84 Albany St.
We also host a circus retreat and a circus festival - Circulation Festival,
every year. This year the circus retreat was at Easter and over 50 performers
came, learnt, played and frolicked for three days.
Circulation Festival is a larger festival and
it is quickly becoming a must on the festival list for performers, so
if you have never been to the South before this is the perfect excuse
to!

Te Whaea, the National Dance and Drama Centre, has been hosting a
random selection of Wellington jugglers every Wednesday for the last
two years. Jugglers of all skill levels gather to learn a new trick,
pass, catch, and at times dodge. The plaza’s a wide open space,
with tall ceilings and good lighting. Anyone looking for a throw is
welcome. Fidel’s on Cuba St is the regular afterwards for pizza
and beer.

Wellington Fire
Fire dance in Wellington is alive and well these days. Since November
2007 the a core group has been practising on Tuesday nights at Frank
Kitts park, with permissions from the council and Wellington Waterfront
Ltd. Permissions were granted because we presented a risk management
plan, and induction information for new comers. Several years
prior, a group used to meet there also on Tuesday nights, so the current
organizers decided to keep it on that day. Tuesday nights are also
the fire dance nights for the Renegade Fire Night group in Auckland.
